Tracking

A normal day is a full 10 hours of tracking. Usually this includes an hour or so of setup, a lunch break, and if needed, time at the end of the day for rough mixes and bounces. All of the gear at Retro is available to be used on each session. One of the great things about this space is the amount of experimentation possible to unlock the sound in your head, or discover something completely new. Either way, our team of engineers are versed in this equipment and are available to help in any way you may need to have a smooth and productive recording session. We do encourage artists to book multiple days, as the setups can often be expansive. Walking in on day 2 with the entire room just like you left it on day 1 is a great feeling.

Video

We have an excellent videographer who can capture the spirit of any live performance in the tracking room. This has been used either for full album releases or for promo material to pair with an album release. As much of our modern musical world is moving towards YouTube and other visual mediums, this is a great way to keep up while still capturing high quality audio.

Mixing/Mastering

We have plenty of options for mixing and mastering. Especially if you would like to mix or master down to tape. Please let us know if you would like to keep your project in house and we will arrange for one of our excellent mixing engineers to guide your tracks to the finish line.

Session Musicians

One of the great benefits of our location in North Florida is that we have access to some of the best talent in the southeast. Thanks to connections with session players of every background and genre, we can provide your project with the perfect musicians to bring your music to life. Please contact us to talk about specifics and so we can find the perfect players for you.

Archival

Here at retro we have a plethora of tape machines and have the ability to archive older mediums to digital format. Tape formats include but are not limited to:

  • 2 Inch tape (24 and 16 track)

  • 1 Inch 16 track

  • 1/2 inch 8 track

  • 1/2 inch 2 track

  • 1/4 inch 2 track

  • ADAT

  • DAT

Many older tapes with certain formulas degrade over time, even with optimal storage practices. These older and sometimes sticky tapes will need to be “Baked” in order to prevent shedding and possible harm to our machines. We will assess the quality of tapes upon arrival and then will be able to accurately quote you a price based off of the time needed for proper archival.

Audio will be returned as high res WAV files for you to download and import to your DAW of choice. Please let us know if you would like your tapes mixed and or mastered by Retrophonics as well.
